How to Make Cold Brew Coffee at Home
When hot weather rolls around, cold brew season begins! By using a french press, you can very easily make cold brew coffee at home, saving you money and reducing waste. All you’ll need is coffee, water and a little patience!
I love cold brew coffee. It packs a ton of flavour with less acidity than hot coffee, and you can modify the brew time to your preferred flavour and bitterness. For me, 12 hours is my preferred brew time, as anything longer normally becomes a bit too bitter for my liking.
I love using a french press because it doesn’t use filters, is easy to clean, and is really satisfying to use. When using it for cold brew, the only thing you need to do is scoop your coffee grounds, pour your water, and throw it in the fridge overnight before pressing and serving the next day.
Tip:
For cold brew coffee in the french press, make sure you use a coarse grind. You should be using a coarse grind for any french press coffee anyway, but when it comes to cold brew, it helps keep the consistency uniform and prevents a swampy layer from developing at the bottom.
Method:
Scoop out your coffee into your french press, add cold water, and let brew overnight in the fridge for a minimum of 12 hours. The ratio you’ll want is about one ounce of ground coffee for every cup of water.
Press, pour into a bottle for later use.
When serving, top off with water or milk to dilute to your preference. This stuff is strong, you’ve been warned. ;)
I like to drink my cold brew coffee black, or with some cashew milk and a splash of cardamom syrup!
